  • What time is boarding or check-in?
    All participants must arrive 30 minutes prior to the tour departure time to present your boarding pass or payment and for photo opportunities. Boarding the boat will take place 15 minutes prior to departure. For the enjoyment of all guests we depart the tour promptly, so please ensure you allow sufficient time for travel. ALL CATCH A CRAB TOUR TIMES ARE REPRESENTED IN QLD TIME.
  • What should I wear on the tour?
    We recommend that you wear casual clothes for the tour such as shorts, t-shirt, thongs, sandals or sneakers and in cooler weather also bring a jacket. For sun protection please wear a hat and wear sun protection cream. If you plan on pumping for yabbies we also recommend that you bring a change of clothes.
  • Where does the tour depart?
    All our tours depart from the catch a Crab & Oyster Farm located at 11/17 Birds Bay Drive, West Tweed Heads in New South Wales, Australia. To find us you can use Google Maps or head on over to our ‘getting here’ page on our website here for directions. You can even download your very own map from this page too!
  • How do I get to Catch a Crab & Oyster Farm?
    We are located just a short drive from the Gold Coast Airport for directions head to our ‘location’ page here for more details. If you need assistance with transport options you can find out about these on our 'transport' page here.
  • Are there any transport options available?
    Yes, there are bus, taxi and transfers available. To find out more visit our‘getting here' on our website here.
  • Is parking available at the tour?
    Yes, we offer an abundance of free parking onsite at the tour location at 11/17 Birds Bay Drive, West Tweed Heads in New South Wales.
  • How long is the tour?
    The tour & boat activities are 2.5 hours in duration. If you choose to include a lunch in a our restaurant, choosing either from the menu or our seafood lunch value package, the experience is extended by 1 hour spent in our onshore restaurant. Most guests spend 30 minutes exploring and taking photos around our onshore facility, Birds Bay Oyster Farm. All together and if enjoying lunch, we recommend allocating 4 hours of your itinerary at Catch a Crab.
  • What is the price of the tour?
    The tour only price is $80 for adults and $50 for children aged 3-12 years. Tour + Seafood Lunch packages begin at $110 for adults, $64 for children. Please see our tour and lunch package options here.
  • Do I need to book lunch?
    Yes, booking for lunch is essential. You can choose to enjoy lunch in our onshore restaurant - The Oyster Shed - by pre-booking a table and ordering from the menu, or by purchasing a seafood lunch value package upfront.   • How do we pay for the tour?
    You can book your tour and lunch package online through the website here or you can book and pay on the day by sending us an email here. We will need a credit card to secure the booking and if you cancel your booking our cancellation policy will apply.
  • What time is the tour?
    We have a morning tour Wednesday to Sunday at 10.30am NSW time (9.30am QLD time). Subject to availability. Please note that if you are purchasing lunch with your afternoon tour, lunch will be served at 1pm prior to the tour & activities. Our tours operate on NSW DLST (daylight savings time) in the Summer months.
  • What time zone does the tour operate on?
    During the Summer months, our tours operate on QLD time. In Australia daylight saving time begins at 2am on the first Sunday in October, when clocks are put forward one hour. It ends at 2am (which is 3am daylight saving time) on the first Sunday in April, when clocks are put back one hour. ALL CATCH A CRAB TOUR TIMES ARE REPRESENTED IN QLD TIME.
  • What is included in the tour?
    Trapping live crabs! Fishing on the mighty Tweed River Hand feeding the friendly wild pelicans Pumping for yabbies (tide and weather permitting) Viewing the Tweed area’s working oyster farms plus commentary (All equipment for activities supplied)
  • Do we get to keep the crabs we catch?
    No, the crabs are cooked & used to supply the lunch service at the café. You will receive a portion of the cooked crabs if you upgrade to one of our Tour & Seafood Lunch packages. Additional crabs, both fresh & cooked, are available for purchase from the café.
  • Do you have a cancellation policy?
    Yes, we do have a cancellation policy. If you cancel your booked tour 24 hours (before 5pm eastern standard time) prior to the tour departure there is no cancellation fee. If you cancel less than 24 hours prior to departure there will be no refund.
  • What season is crab catching?
    You can catch crabs all year round, although the warmer weather is when they are most active, hence the old saying… that you can catch crabs in any month ending in the letter ‘r’.
  • Do I have to book lunch with the tour?
    No, you can book the ‘tour only’ option.
  • Can I just come for lunch?
    If you do not wish to experience the Catch a Crab tour, you can still enjoy a dining experience in our onshore restaurant - The Oyster Shed - on its operating days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday (midday to sunset). The Oyster Shed is located right on the banks of the Tweed River overlooking Birds Bay wetlands habitat, a nature reserve and breeding area for bird and marine life. Try our own freshly shucked premium Sydney Rock oysters as well as tasty seafood share plates and platters. You will need to pre-bbook directly through The Oyster Shed booking portal here
